Permaculture Design Certification

This international certification is the global standard for Permaculture Consultants & Designers, featuring a 100-hour training program including the required 72-hours of training plus 28 hours of in-the-field applied learning to redesign the campus Community Garden with instructor Rosa Maicas, a permaculture expert.

One cannot miss the unbridled passion and enthusiasm shared by Rosa when she talks about land and garden design and its eco-cultural impact on our lives and communities.  Rosa likes to “present things visually” and insists on a hands-on approach by “going outside to the garden” to “fully experience our living ecosystems” because they represent “what is alive!”

She insists that you “don’t have to be a farmer” to reap the benefits of this course. Her goal is for you to “feel crazy empowered” with a “toolkit of multiple skills and techniques” to be a designer. No longer will you see a lack of something or a problem with your land or garden, you will “see the opportunity and even the abundance.”

If you are also interested in how our “living systems” on Maui can be better integrated to their original and intended state, this course will give you the skills and understanding to create a difference in your natural environment.

Along with classroom discussions, videos and presentations, this class includes hands-on experience from implementing a new garden design that will include designing and building a mandala garden, planting food forests, composting, measuring the landscape for swales and more!
