This program is a hybrid course that combines 6 weeks of classes that will be broadcasted to Lanai High School from Maui followed by a 3-day solar hot water installation workshop held at Lanai High School.
The training provides entry-level training in solar hot water design and installation. The curriculum introduces students to solar thermal applications, theory, safety issues, troubleshooting and monitoring, solar thermal design and installation, and licensing and permitting requirements. The course includes both classroom and hands-on experience.
Instructor Bio: Clifford Rutherford was a former building contractor and practiced plumbing and solar hot water installation with a local division of a national plumbing franchise on Maui and received solar hot water trainer certification through the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). As an Instructor at UHMC, he was Program Coordinator for the Construction Academy Program and taught energy and construction trade credit courses with the Sustainable Construction Technology Program.
