UHMC Community Garden breaks ground!

The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui (SLIM) would like to gladly introduce you to the new UHMC community garden, funded by Community Work Day (CWD) and the Ulupono Initiative.

The garden will be located between the upper, North-West side of the main parking lot and the UHMC educational fields, directly across from the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s main entrance.

Throughout the next 3-4 weeks, the garden space will be going through renovations as workers remove trees, install irrigation lines, deliver soil and overall, prepare the land for for a sufficient growing opportunity.

The garden will be opening on May 10th with a “ribbon cutting” event which will include refreshments, planting, and an imperative garden blessing. We encourage you to save the date, and come join in on the fun as the spring semester comes to a close.

The community garden will be available to all students, faculty and staff members along with members of our community who enjoy growing their own food while socializing and interacting with others who share the same interests.

For more information about the garden and the May 10th grand opening, please contact garden coordinator, Justin Hepburn via email at hepburn@hawaii.edu.
